Demolition Services in Randwick and South Sydney
Randwick City Council covers one of Sydney’s most densely developed residential corridors – Randwick, Kensington, Kingsford, Coogee, Maroubra, and Matraville. Post-war housing from the 1950s and 1960s sits alongside the UNSW precinct, active medium-density development, and a strong knockdown-rebuild market driven by rising land values and aging stock that is increasingly uneconomical to renovate.
Get It Away operates from our Rose Bay office at 643 Old South Head Road – 10 minutes from Randwick, 15 minutes from Kensington, and 20 minutes from Maroubra. We hold a SafeWork NSW Restricted Demolition Licence (DE2 – AD214489) and deliver residential demolition, asbestos management, and excavation across the full Randwick City Council area. We also operate from our Smithfield office across Greater Sydney.
Randwick City Council – One Council, Active Development
Randwick City Council covers the entire Randwick and South Sydney corridor under a single council and a single LEP. That makes compliance straightforward once you know your site’s heritage status and zoning. The Council has been actively facilitating medium-density infill development across the LGA, which is driving a strong pipeline of demolition activity.
Post-war homes built between 1945 and 1987 are common across Kensington, Kingsford, Maroubra, and Matraville. The majority contain asbestos in fibro cladding, eave linings, internal sheeting, or floor tiles. A licensed inspection before any demolition commences is a mandatory requirement – and the starting point for every Randwick project we deliver.
Knockdown-rebuild
Rising land values across Randwick, Kensington, and Kingsford have made KDR the dominant residential development activity. Standard CDC pathway on non-heritage sites. Active dual-occupancy pipeline in R2 zones.
UNSW precinct
The area surrounding UNSW in Kensington has active medium-density development and student accommodation projects. Older residential and commercial buildings being cleared for new development.
Heritage areas
Randwick LEP 2012 lists heritage items and conservation areas, particularly around parts of Randwick Junction and older residential precincts. DA required for heritage-affected demolition.

Project Insight
Residential Demolition and KDR Preparation – Kingsford
A 1958 brick veneer home in Kingsford was referred to us ahead of a knockdown-rebuild. Pre-demolition inspection identified asbestos in fibro eave linings and vinyl floor tiles throughout. The property was outside any Heritage Conservation Area, allowing a CDC pathway through a private certifier.
We coordinated the CDC documentation, utility disconnections with Ausgrid, Jemena Gas, and Sydney Water, and lodged the SafeWork NSW notification. Licensed asbestos removal completed in one day with hygienist clearance issued the same afternoon.
Full structural demolition including footings and slab was completed on day 2. The site was levelled and handed over to the builder with a full compliance pack on day 3. Narrow street frontage required careful hoarding management throughout.
Scope: Asbestos removal + full demolition + site clearance | Timeline: 3 working days | Location: Kingsford, Randwick City Council
