House Demolition, Excavation and Duplex Site Preparation in Austral

Austral is still becoming a suburb. Large parts of it are former rural acreage being subdivided into new streets, and the demolition work here looks different as a result, clearing old farmhouses and sheds, preparing greenfield blocks for a build, and getting sites ready for duplex or dual occupancy development.

Get It Away is a SafeWork NSW licensed demolition contractor with more than 15 years of experience, over 2,500 completed projects across Sydney, and $20 million in public liability cover. Serving Austral from our St Clair office, we work with homeowners and builders across the South West Growth Area.

What Makes Austral Different

Austral sits in the Liverpool City Council area, within what the state calls the South West Growth Area (also known as the South West Priority Land Release Area). Council still assesses development here in the usual way, but land in the precinct is also subject to the Liverpool Growth Centre Precincts DCP and an Indicative Layout Plan, which govern how each rural block converts to new streets, homes and parks in stages, which is why the suburb still feels like a work in progress.

Clearing Rural and Acreage Properties for New Development

Much of the demolition demand in Austral comes from older rural dwellings, farmhouses and sheds still standing on acreage lots as they’re subdivided. Older buildings and structures, particularly those built before the mid-1980s, may contain asbestos and should be assessed before any work begins. Once a block is cleared, it’s often prepared straight into a duplex or dual occupancy site rather than a single knockdown rebuild, which is different from the established-suburb pattern of most of Sydney.

Site Conditions, Approvals and Access

Approvals

Liverpool City Council assesses development as usual, alongside the Growth Centre Precincts DCP and Indicative Layout Plan. Heritage listing is generally less prominent here than in established historic suburbs, but the requirements for a specific property still need to be checked.

Site Checks

Some parts of the precinct carry bushfire-prone land requirements, and land is checked for contamination at subdivision. We factor both into site planning, and can coordinate a proper remediation assessment if needed.

Roads and Access

Bringelly Road, Fifteenth Avenue and Edmondson Avenue are the main roads through Austral, with the new M12 Motorway giving direct access via the M7 since March 2026. We check access at inspection, since some approach roads are still being upgraded.

Common Austral Project Scenarios

Clearing an old farmhouse or rural dwelling?

We assess for asbestos first if the structure was built before the mid-1980s, then handle demolition and site clearing.

Preparing a new block for a duplex?

We clear the site and prepare it for a dual occupancy build, coordinated with your builder’s timeline.

Old shed or outbuilding still on site?

These are common on acreage lots and are assessed and cleared as part of the same project.

Access road still being upgraded?

We check current road and site access at inspection, since parts of the precinct are still under construction.
