The plans you receive come directly from each registered authority: electricity, gas, water, sewer, telecommunications, and stormwater. Each authority sends their own plans with their own safety instructions. Do not proceed until you have received responses from every affected asset owner. What BYDA Plans Show

BYDA plans show the approximate horizontal location of registered underground services in your area. That word “approximate” matters. Plans are indicative. They are a guide. BYDA itself states clearly that plans should not be relied upon as the sole source of information and that physical locating is required before excavation near services.

What BYDA plans do NOT show:
  • Service depth – depth is never shown on BYDA plans
  • Unregistered services – pre-1980 infrastructure in many Sydney suburbs is not in the system
  • Decommissioned services – old mains that were abandoned rather than removed

Potholing
