Our Earthmoving Services

Bulk Excavation

We bring whole sites down to the design level for townhouses, apartments, subdivisions, commercial builds and car parks. We work from your engineering levels, check as we go and cart the spoil away in the same job. Going deep? See basement excavation.

Site Cuts

We cut sloping blocks back to a flat, level pad for new homes, duplexes and extensions. Batters, drainage and neighbouring footings are planned in from the start, so your builder gets a pad that passes inspection.

Cut and Fill

We move soil from the high side of your block to build up the low side. Less soil leaves site, so you pay for fewer truckloads.

Levelling and Grading

We shape the ground to the right falls for slabs, driveways, hardstands, sheds and landscaping, so water drains away from the building.

Site Clearing

We clear vegetation, old concrete, rubble and topsoil so earthworks can start on a clean site. Need trees removed first? We also offer tree removal.

Soil and Concrete Removal

Already have a pile of soil or broken concrete on site? We’ll load it and cart it away, even if someone else did the digging. See details below.

Hit sandstone? Our rock excavation team handles it in the same scope.

Bulk Excavation for Builders and Developers

Bulk excavation is the large-scale removal of soil and rock to bring a whole site down to its formation level, the level on your engineering drawings where slabs, footings and basements begin. It’s the first stage of earthworks on most development sites, and it sets the pace for everything after it.

We carry out bulk excavation for:

  • ✓Townhouse and duplex developments
  • ✓Apartment buildings with car parks and lower levels
  • ✓Subdivisions and new residential lots
  • ✓Commercial and industrial sites, including warehouses and hardstands
  • ✓Large residential builds and knockdown rebuilds on sloping blocks

On a development site, the earthworks program is usually on the critical path. We plan machine size, truck numbers and spoil destinations before we start, so the dig keeps moving and your builder isn’t left waiting.

Bulk Excavation vs Detailed Excavation

Bulk excavation Detailed excavation
Purpose Bring the whole site to level Dig precise elements within the site
Typical work Site cuts, cut and fill, levelling, cart away Footings, trenches, pits, pool shells
Order on site First Second, once the site is at level

Need both? We do both. See our excavation services for detailed digs.

Why Builders and Developers Choose Get It Away

We own the trucks. The excavator loads, the truck leaves, and the next one is already on its way. No idle machines and no waiting on a hire company.

We allow for swell upfront. Soil takes up 10 to 50 percent more space once it’s dug. We price the real number of truckloads, so your quote doesn’t jump halfway through the job.

You get proof of disposal. In NSW, the owner of the waste can be held responsible if it’s dumped illegally. We classify every load, keep clean soil separate from rubble, and give you tip dockets for all of it.

One team from demolition to handover. We can demolish the existing house, then cut, level and clear the site. One quote, one contact and no gap between trades.

Soil, Rock and Spoil Removal

Every earthmoving job produces spoil, and many sites have a pile of soil or concrete that just needs to go. We handle both. We load the material, haul it away with our own tipper trucks and take it to the right facility, whether it came from our dig or someone else’s.

We regularly clear sites for builders, landscapers, pool builders, concreters and homeowners.

Material Where it goes
Clean excavated soil Approved reuse sites
Clay Reuse sites, where it qualifies
Sandstone and rock Reuse or recycling facilities
Broken concrete, slabs and driveways Recycling, crushed into road base
Bricks and mixed rubble Licensed recycling or waste facilities
Mixed or contaminated fill Licensed facilities, after classification

Ground type changes the numbers. Clay and broken sandstone swell far more than sand once dug, so they fill more trucks. Clean natural soil can often be reused, while mixed fill costs more to dispose of. We check what’s in the ground before we quote.

Classified, reused or disposed of properly. Every load is classified under NSW EPA rules. Clean material goes to reuse where possible, and everything else goes to a licensed facility. You get tip dockets for every load.

The right truck for your street. Rigid tippers suit narrow streets and steep driveways. Truck and dog combinations suit open sites, where bigger loads bring the cost down.

Just need a pile gone? Send us photos of the material and the access, and we’ll quote to load and cart it away.

Suspect asbestos? Don’t disturb it. Our asbestos removal team will assess it first.

How We Deliver Your Earthworks

1

Site visit. We check access, ground conditions and your plans.

2

Fixed-price quote. Machines, trucks, swell and disposal are all included in writing.

3

Site setup. Fencing, sediment controls and a Before You Dig Australia check go in first.

4

Earthworks. We cut, fill, compact and level to design, checking levels as we go.

5

Cart away. Spoil is classified and trucked to the right facility.

6

Handover. Your site is left at level and ready for your builder.

What Affects the Price of Earthmoving

  • ✓Volume of soil and rock to move
  • ✓Depth and formation level, since deeper digs can need bigger machines, shoring and more truckloads
  • ✓Rock, since sandstone needs hammers or saws
  • ✓Spoil type, because clean soil costs far less to dispose of than mixed fill
  • ✓Access for machines and trucks
  • ✓Cut and fill balance, because reusing soil on site means fewer loads

We quote most jobs as a fixed price after a free site visit. For a quick estimate, try our cost calculator.

Safe, Compliant Earthworks

Earthworks involve heavy machines, deep cuts and trucks on public roads. One shortcut can mean an injury, a damaged neighbouring home or a stop-work notice. We plan every job to avoid all three.

Before we dig

  • Before You Dig Australia (BYDA) search to locate gas, power, water and telecommunications services
  • Safe Work Method Statements for all high-risk work, including excavation deeper than 1.5 metres
  • Site-specific risk assessment, covering access, ground conditions, overhead powerlines and neighbouring structures
  • Engineer and geotech input on deep cuts, batters and retaining

On site

  • Exclusion zones around working machines, with trained spotters where needed
  • Batters, benching or shoring on cut faces where required, to engineer specs
  • Daily pre-start checks on machines and the site
  • Level checks as we go, so the work is right the first time

Protecting neighbours and the street

  • Care around boundary footings, fences and walls, with dilapidation reports arranged before work starts where required
  • Dust suppression with water carts or sprays
  • Noise and vibration management, working within council-approved hours
  • Traffic control for trucks entering and leaving busy streets

Protecting the environment

  • Sediment fencing and stabilised site entries to keep soil out of stormwater drains and off the road
  • Covered loads on every truck
  • Lawful disposal to licensed facilities or approved reuse sites, with dockets for every load

Trucks on the road

  • Load limits and restraint managed under the Heavy Vehicle National Law
  • Licensed, experienced drivers who know Sydney’s tight streets and council work zones

Everything is backed by our SafeWork NSW Licence (AD214489), $20 million public liability insurance and workers compensation for all staff. Read more about our demolition safety and approvals and compliance.

Earthmoving Across Sydney

We work across Greater Sydney from offices in Smithfield, Rose Bay, Lidcombe, St Clair and Menai. Being local keeps travel time and truck costs down.

Frequently Asked Questions

An earthmoving contractor digs, moves, levels and removes soil and rock to get a site ready for building. This includes bulk excavation, site cuts, cut and fill and soil removal.
Bulk excavation removes large volumes of soil or rock to bring a whole site to its design level. It’s the first stage of earthworks for developments and new builds.
It depends on the volume, how much rock there is, the spoil type and access. We give a fixed price after a free site visit.
Yes. Send us photos of the pile and the access, and we’ll quote to load and cart it away.
It depends on the volume, whether the soil is clean or mixed, and how easy it is to load. Clean soil and clean concrete cost less to dispose of than mixed loads.
Usually because of hidden rock, contaminated fill or extra truckloads from swell. We check ground conditions and allow for swell before we quote.
Depending on its classification, it goes to a licensed facility or an approved reuse site. You get tip dockets for every load.
Earthworks for a new build are usually covered by your DA or CDC. Stand-alone earthworks may need separate approval, so check with your council or certifier.
